The Delta Today

The San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta is an important part of California's terrain with major urban areas such as Stockton being built around it for its easy access and fertile ground.  This is responsible for making the San Joaquin County the most productive agriculture region in the world growing over 250 different crops on its approximately 4,000 farms.

The Delta 100 Years Ago

In the early twentieth century when Shima began building his potato empire the Delta was more natural, existing without much interference from humans.  When Shima arrived he began a complicated construction effort on the delta building levees and islands creating the perfect land for farming potatoes and the Delta as we know it today.
